2025 Participant Biographies

Avra Laarakker (she/they- MD, MSc, BEd) is a fellowship-trained Gender-Affirming Plastic Surgeon based out of Jefferson Einstein in Philadelphia. While her background is in pure mathematics (both BSc and MSc), her commitment to the gender-expansive community and “reconstructive” concepts ultimately drew her to healthcare and surgery. During her years as a mathematician, she volunteered in the only sexual health clinic in the Maritimes (Canada). Additionally, a long-standing interest in large-scale sculpture and design all led her to her current specialization in gender-affirming plastic surgery.

She completed her fellowship in Gender Affirming Plastic Surgery at Mount Sinai under the guidance of Drs. Marci Bowers and Jess Ting. She will provide the full spectrum of affirming surgeries (face/top/bottom) at Jefferson Einstein in Philly and actively participate in the Jefferson Pride program. She is beyond dedicated to her patients, the community, education, outreach, and providing affirming care. Avra has interests in healthcare design and intersections of alternative medicine and surgery. When not doing surgery, she can often be found riding rollercoasters, soaking in natural hot springs, or reveling in an exquisite bite with friends.
